Tesla is reportedly behind on its pledge to build 5,000 Optimus bots this year
Tesla’s efforts to produce 5,000 Optimus robots this year appear to be falling short, with output currently in the hundreds, The Information has reported. Citing sources familiar with the matter, the article notes that Tesla may have to either boost production or revise its goal.
The report comes shortly after Tesla released its Q2 results, showing a 12% decline in revenue, driven by reduced EV sales and lower returns from solar energy. Elon Musk said during the company’s earnings call that production on Optimus 3 would commence in early 2026.
He added that reaching an annual production rate of one million units remains a core ambition, though his prior predictions for robotaxi rollout have yet to come true.
