Nvidia Unveils £2bn Plan to Back UK’s AI Start-Ups

Nvidia has confirmed a £2bn investment into the UK’s artificial intelligence start-up ecosystem. The company’s CEO described the initiative as part of the “age of AI” and said that Revolut and Wayve are among those set to benefit.

The announcement, made on September 18, outlined that the funds will go toward developing AI technologies across the country, aiming to generate both new enterprises and employment. The initiative is backed by Accel, Air Street Capital, Balderton Capital, Hoxton Ventures and Phoenix Court.

Nvidia noted that capital will be directed toward “AI Growth Zones” and advanced tech hubs, including London, Oxford, Cambridge and Manchester.

This development follows a larger combined investment of more than $40bn earlier this week from Nvidia, Microsoft and OpenAI to enhance AI capabilities in the UK. Microsoft pledged $30bn in its largest UK investment, OpenAI launched its Stargate project, and Nvidia joined CoreWeave, Nscale and Microsoft in creating $15bn worth of AI factories.

In a related move, Nvidia said it will acquire $5bn in Intel shares as the two companies collaborate on future data centre and PC technologies.
