Jack Dorsey’s Bluetooth messaging app Bitchat now on App Store

Bitchat, a minimalist messaging app from Twitter and Block founder Jack Dorsey, is live on the iOS App Store. Dorsey claims to have coded its initial framework during a weekend in July, emphasizing speed in execution.

Using Bluetooth mesh networking, the app connects users within approximately 100 meters without internet or mobile service. This peer-to-peer method can help maintain communications when networks are unreliable.

Upon opening, users skip sign-up and go straight to a chat box, where they can join local discussions and change their display name at will. The minimal design prioritizes function over form.

While fake apps have surfaced on Google Play, Dorsey’s only comment has been a repost warning that Bitchat has no official Android version.
