UK Security Leaders Demand Action on AI Threats from DeepSeek

UK security executives are warning about the risks of Chinese AI platform DeepSeek, with 81% of CISOs urging immediate government regulation. The findings are based on an Absolute Security survey of 250 CISOs, revealing widespread fear that unregulated AI could lead to a cyber crisis.

The data shows 34% of CISOs have banned AI tools altogether, while 30% have suspended specific deployments. Concerns are focused on DeepSeek’s potential to compromise sensitive data and drive cyberattacks. Sixty percent expect an increase in attack volume, while 42% view AI as more harmful than beneficial.

Andy Ward of Absolute Security said that tools like DeepSeek are advancing faster than company defences, creating a dangerous gap in preparedness. Nearly half of CISOs admitted they lack the capacity to defend against AI-driven attacks. Without regulation, they warn of economic disruption.

Yet businesses are not abandoning AI adoption. Instead, 84% are hiring AI experts, while 80% are training leadership to balance innovation with safety.

CISOs insist AI must be managed responsibly through government action. They call for regulations, clear rules, and national strategy to ensure AI supports progress without sparking crisis.
