Meta says it will let candidates use AI in some job interviews
Meta is trialing a coding interview format that integrates AI tools into the candidate experience. Internal communications, verified by 404 Media, reveal the company is recruiting internal staff for mock interviews as part of efforts to refine the process.
The initiative reflects the increasing reliance on AI assistants and agents across the tech sector, particularly in software engineering. By allowing AI use during interviews, Meta aims to mirror the actual working conditions its engineers face and reduce the likelihood of LLM-based cheating.
“Meta is developing a new type of coding interview in which candidates have access to an AI assistant,” one internal post explained. “This is more representative of the developer environment that our future employees will work in, and also makes LLM-based cheating less effective.”
A spokesperson for Meta confirmed the tests, stating: “We’re obviously focused on using AI to help engineers with their day-to-day work, so it should be no surprise that we’re testing how to provide these tools to applicants during interviews.”
