Apple appeals EU’s €500M fine over App Store payment restraints

Apple is fighting back against a €500 million fine from EU regulators over alleged non-compliance with the Digital Markets Act. The European Commission announced the penalty in April, citing Apple’s restrictions on developers promoting outside payment options.

Under the DMA, gatekeeper platforms must give developers more flexibility in processing transactions. Regulators said Apple’s policies still deterred competition.

Apple’s revised EU fee framework, unveiled in late June, introduced multiple charges designed to support alternative payment mechanisms. Despite these adjustments, the company maintains that the fine is unjustified.

In a statement, Apple argued that the decision forces unnecessary and harmful business terms on its App Store.
